<description>I was wondering if there was any connection between obesity and dysfunction of the pancreas. One of the primary measurable symptoms of a pancreas problem is its over production of insulin. But two of the other functions of the pancreas are the release of digestive enzymes for protein and the release of a chemical that sends the "full" signal to the liver/brain (can't remember which it is right now).

Could it be that a dysfunctional pancreas leads to obesity not only through its insulin function but through bad digestion of protein, causing a toxic overload in the body, combined with faulty "full" signals meaning a person is more likely to overeat before getting the signal to the brain, if at all, that enough has been consumed?

As a caveat I would like to add this is only from the perspective of a lay person who has a morbidly obese husband with insulin resistance. The other day though my kids were watching a show on the digestive process and the pancreas just leaped out at me. I did a little googling and this idea seemed to have some merit, at least to me.

I would love to hear if there is possibly something to this.

Best wishes,
